About Bruno’s Italian Restaurant

Bruno’s Italian Restaurant and Bar offers authentic Italian cuisine in an unforgettable downtown setting. Located at 416 South Avenue in the heart of Springfield, Missouri, Bruno’s is housed in a beautifully restored historic building dating back to 1905. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere is warm, romantic, and inviting—transporting you straight to Italy.

Founded in 2004 by Italian-born chef Bruno Gargiulo, a native of Sicily, Bruno’s quickly became a downtown institution. Built on a passion for traditional Italian cooking and genuine hospitality, the restaurant is known for fresh Italian ingredients crafted into classic recipes and prepared the Italian way. The menu features beloved favorites including appetizers, Sicilian-inspired salads, savory pastas, brick-oven pizzas, authentic Italian entrées, fresh seafood specialties, and house-made desserts.

The historic building adds to the experience. More than 120 years old, it has served many purposes over the decades—from storefronts to a printing press—and today blends old-world charm with inviting elegance. A sweeping mural of the Italian countryside covers the back wall, copper ceilings add warmth, lush greenery winds overhead, and the aroma of freshly baked bread fills the air. A framed historic photo offers a glimpse into the building’s past, while the open kitchen brings life and energy to the dining room.

A New Chapter, Honoring a Beloved Legacy

In January 2025, Bruno’s entered an exciting new chapter under the ownership of Aubrey Kennedy, who is dedicated to restoring the restaurant to its original charm while thoughtfully enhancing the experience. Aubrey believes deeply in honoring Bruno’s legacy by preserving the recipes and traditions that have made it a favorite for generations in the 417.

Since taking ownership, she has gently polished the restaurant behind the scenes, brought back fan-favorite dishes—like spinach-and-ricotta gnocchi in sage cream sauce—and reintroduced lunch service downtown. Guests can also look forward to Italian-inspired cocktails, seasonal offerings, and plans for a weekend brunch.

Upstairs Wine Bar & Event Space

The upstairs space is currently being renovated to reopen as a bar and private event venue. Bathed in natural light from skylights, featuring stained glass accents imported from Italy and original hardwood floors, the upstairs will offer a relaxed yet refined setting. The vision includes a casual after-work bar with small plates, sports viewing, extended evening hours, and availability for private parties and special events.

Welcome Back to Bruno’s

Aubrey would love to welcome you in and say hello. While she may not have created Bruno’s, she is wholeheartedly committed to making it your favorite Italian restaurant—again or for the first time.

Whether you’re joining us for a quick weekday lunch, a romantic dinner, or a special celebration, Bruno’s continues its tradition of authentic Italian flavors, historic charm, and warm hospitality in the heart of downtown Springfield.
